... not the movie, but the number of self-professed Holmes aficionados who apparently have no knowledge of Holmes. For the record, Holmes was a miserable, irresponsible drug addict who has actually sleep on the floor, insult his best friend, experiment on his dog, and never, never worn a deerstalker cap (at least not before television was invented ). It was a brawler who practiced martial arts and had the same chance of slums around the most filthy rags as a suit.It It was only after Dr. Watson shook his hand, which really has further evolved and became a respectable member of society. And yes, we can say that this film takes place in the beginning of their relationship because Watson has not yet married his wife (retconning annoy me too, by the way, but as soon as I can avoid some "re-imagining here and there). Speaking of the inevitable, (is that a word?) Irene Adler, Holmes uncapturable, just had to be cast as a potential boyfriend. The flirting, romance, and the session of quasi-make-out was irresistible to the director (and by all public whore honest with yourself). That said, I felt Robert Downey, Jr. played Sherlock Holmes to perfection. Its characteristic caustic attitude towards Lestrade and even Watson at times was just like him Id imagine. He gives several summation of his observations and deductions that led Holmes to life in an almost unparalleled. His fight scenes (in front of the first times after superhuman calculations) shows both the mental and physical aspects of Holmes in ways that Watson notes can convey enough, but when you constantly hint.As Watson himself, Jude Law delivered a fantastic show. I was a bit "skeptical about how well he fought, given Watson's wartime damage, but his character and behavior was totally on the nose. His loyalty to Holmes, could despite their frustrations with him have been caught more experienced, I feel. No, as far as patient and forgiving, could endure Holmes forever without the occasional confrontation. The original Holmes, after all, was not superior to insult his best friend or mock his logical abilities at times.
